ai-coach: the AI coach for Avanti's CoE students

The question: which techniques, used after a test on the questions a student got wrong, raise JEE scores for Grade 11 and 12 students at an Avanti CoE, and which of them an AI coach could deliver.

Reproduce

  • Sources: gs://avantifellows-research-sources/ai-coach/<strand>/<file>, listed in SOURCES.md. python3 scripts/research_sources.py check ai-coach verifies every link.
  • Meta-analysis: python3 analysis/ai-coach/meta/pool.py pools the AI-tutor trials and draws fig_meta_forest.svg; python3 analysis/ai-coach/meta/check.py asserts that every planning range and pooled figure in META_ANALYSIS.md matches meta/headline.tsv and meta/output/pooled.csv.
  • Power simulation: power/power_lead.py (8 chapters x 8 items per period; 52 students gives 51% power at 5 points and 89% at 8 points before attrition).
  • Editable docs: WHAT_WORKS.md, META_ANALYSIS.md and COACH_WALKTHROUGH.md are reviewed as editable Claude Docs, linked in their .doc.json sidecars. After a review round, export the doc and run python3 scripts/doc_sync.py pull <paper>.md <export>; git diff then shows the edits made in the doc.

The first plan (PLAN.md), its three competing drafts, its design mockups and the approach note (APPROACH.md) were retired on 2026-11-02; they remain in git history.
